FOMO (‘fear of missing out’) means fear of missing out on social media or being excluded from an event, forcing those suffering from this syndrome to stay connected to the Internet, and compulsively consult the networks, E-mail or WhatsApp, for fear of not knowing anything that happens in their environment, or to be excluded from an event or which is worse, than other people may be doing more interesting or fun things.

Some of the causes of FOMO (‘fear of missing out’) are :
*Misuse of social media.
*The excessive amount of information handled on the Internet and social media.
*Low self-esteem.
*Shortage of satisfaction in psychological needs.
*Solitude.

The desire to learn about the lives of others and tell one another – exhibitionism or desire to star – is not new, the difference is that new technologies provide us with the means to do so immediately and with images that illustrate what we want to count on. Social networks like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram allow anyone to compare their lives with those of many others in real time.

The idea that you might be missing out on a good time is not new to our era. However, while it has presumably been around for centuries (you can see evidence of FOMO in ancient texts), it has only been studied during the past few decades, beginning with a 1996 research paper by marketing strategist, Dr. Dan Herman, who coined the term “fear of missing out.”

In addition to the many hours that people with FOMO spend on social media, this fear can also bring with them certain adverse psychological and physical effects:
Concentration problems.
Concern.
Depressive mood.
Stress.
Sleep problems.
Psychosomatic discomfort (headaches, sweating, etc.)
